I am a Tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Technology at Uppsala University and a member of the Uppsala University Information Laboratory (UU-InfoLab). Before joining Uppsala, I was a postdoctoral researcher at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, where I worked with Prof. Aris Gionis. Prior to that, I was a postdoctoral researcher in the Data Science and its Applications group at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), working with Prof. Sebastian Vollmer. I received my PhD from Halmstad University under the supervision of Prof. Slawomir Nowaczyk. During my PhD, I was also a Data Science for Social Good Fellow at the Alan Turing Institute in the UK.
My research focuses on developing machine learning methods that are trustworthy, safe, and practical in real-life. The problems I work on are strongly motivated by societal needs and often involve large-scale complex systems with humans in the loop. Currently, I am supervising Xin Shen, whose research focuses on clustering uncertain networks, and co-supervising Georgios Panayiouto, who works on fair graph analysis, and Diletta Goglia, working on online manipulation and persuasion.
Outside of research, you’ll most likely find me busy with feminism and social justice, causes I read about, care about, and act on. They also shape how I think about technology and its role in the world. I’m also a mother of two, so a good amount of my time is happily spent in the beautiful chaos of family life. I am currently on parental leave until the end of summer!
